French Tennis Players Suffer Early Upsets at Indian Wells Qualifying

It is already a massacre for French tennis in Indian Wells. All three seeded players, Arthur Cazaux, Quentin Halys and Benoit Paire lost at the start of qualifying for the Masters 1000 this Monday evening in California. Quentin Halys, seeded number 10, opened the dance by losing in two sets (6-1, 7-5) against the American Ethan Quinn, 284th in the world. Arthur Cazaux (n°5) quickly joined him by also coming out in two sets (6-4, 6-4) against the German Benjamin Hassan, 156th in the world.

A few minutes later, Benoit Paire (n°12) also lost (7-6 [5], 6-3) against world number 130 Alex Molcan. Only Hugo Grenier managed to raise the general score of the French by easily defeating the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic (n°15), 119th in the world. He will then face Paire’s loser, Alex Molcan, for a place in the main draw.
