A French tennis player collapsed in the middle of the match

The recent incident in the world of tennis during the Miami Masters 1000 with the young Frenchman Arthur Cazaux, 21, set off alarms among professionals and amateurs. The Frenchman, current number 74 in the ATP ranking, was facing his compatriot Harold Mayot (141°) in the first round of the Qualy when, during the third set, he lost his stability and collapsed on the court.

Those present watched as Cazaux remained on the ground, with his arms rigid and his hands towards the sky. Initially, the reaction to his fall was not immediate, since at first they thought it was just fatigue, accompanied by a cramp. However, a doctor, realizing the seriousness of the situation, quickly intervened.

Seconds later, the umpire accompanied the specialist after a ball boy approached Cazaux. Finally, Mayot crossed the court and also headed towards the center of the stage. The preliminary diagnosis was severe heat stroke, so the tennis player left the court in a wheelchair and protected from the sun with an umbrella. He was then transferred to a medical center, where he received a general checkup. Cazaux, who owns three Challenger titles and was the third favorite in qualifying, managed to receive assistance in time.

After the incident, Harold Mayot expressed his concern about what happened: “He had not felt well for several games and was starting to have cramps. I didn’t see him fall and I thought he was lying down because he had a cramp. When I realized it was serious, I immediately went to him and was very worried.”

These statements came to light after the Frenchman was the victim of a wave of criticism on social networks for not immediately attending Cazaux. Mayot defended himself against the accusations on his X account (former Twitter), emphasizing his concern and wishing Cazaux a speedy recovery. In addition, he highlighted the friendship that exists between the two.

“Stop launching a false controversy. I did my best to help. Between us there is nothing but a great friendship and complicity and there always has been. They have to stop sending their hate all the time. I wish him a good recovery and the best,” said the Frenchman.

Mayot and Cazaux have a long history together in tennis. Born in 2002, they have faced each other on multiple occasions, including the final of the Australian Junior Open in 2020, where Mayot emerged victorious.

The match in question could not be finished due to this medical problem and Mayot was awarded the victory after two hours of play and with the scores at 4-6, 7-5, 2-1, after Cazaux abandoned due to his indisposition. . The meeting was held under complex conditions, with temperatures reaching 31 degrees and 70% humidity. In the next round, Mayot will face Belgian David Goffin, seeking a place in the main draw of the tournament.
