French Judo Team Guarantees Medal at Grand Slam in Tashkent

A medal (minimum) is assured for the French judo team at the Grand Slam in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) this Sunday. Fanny-Estelle Posvite (-78 kg), bronze medalist at the 2023 Worlds, qualified for the final (from 1 p.m. French time). Her compatriot Léa Fontaine, third at the Paris Grand Slam, will fight for a bronze medal in +78 kg.

Posvite against Takayama in the final

Posvite successively beat the Russian Darya Kantsavaya, the Uzbek Iriskhon Kurbanbaeva, the Israeli Inbar Lanir and the Portuguese Patricia Sampaio. The AJ Limoges graduate will face the Japanese Rika Takayama in the final. In the same category, Chloé Buttigieg fell from the start against the Dutchwoman Yael Van Heemst.

For her part, Léa Fontaine had to lose in the semi-finals against the Chinese Xin Su. The silver medalist of the 2021 European Championships can still leave Uzbekistan with a medal around her neck but for that, she will have to get rid of the Russian Elis Startseva. In the men’s category, Khamzat Saparbaev (+100 kg) fell as soon as he entered the competition against the Kazakhstani Yerassyl Kazhybayev.
