French Football Federation Faces Backlash from French Muslims Over Ramadan Fasting Policies

Every year, the FFF finds itself in the sights of French Muslims.

Intractable and inflexible on the subject, the leaders of French football refuse to give in on any subject linked to religion. And Ramadan is becoming more and more tense, particularly players invited not to fast during national team gatherings.

This is the case of Mahamadou Diawara, which has probably just destroyed his chances of wearing a blue jersey in his career. Asked by Mali this week to play in the Paris Olympic Games this summer, the young OL midfielder responded to the call-up with the French U19 team.

From advice, the instruction became this year an order.

So, upon learning that the FFF had issued instructions that no player should fast while in the selection, he preferred to leave on Tuesday to be able to continue doing Ramadan.

No communication has been made, neither by the FFF, nor by the coach of the U19 tricolors Bernard Diomedenor by the player or his employer OL.

Mahamadou Diawara has already returned to Décines where he trained this Wednesday.

On social networks, the former Parisian born in Longjumeau is becoming the standard-bearer of Muslims who are demanding, in particular, that a break be authorized in France during matches to allow practicing players to break the fast by drinking and while eating. An extra-sporting dimension that makes everyone uncomfortable at Olympique Lyonnais.
