Four spelling mistakes on the Kobe Bryant statue inaugurated by the Los Angeles Lakers

In front of the Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center), the Los Angeles Lakers lifted the veil on the statue erected in honor of Kobe Bryant in early February. The five-time NBA champion winger, who died in 2020 in a helicopter accident, appeared with his right index finger raised, the number 8 on the jersey. Like on January 22, 2006 when he scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second total in NBA history in a game.

The Californian franchise wanted to reproduce the match sheet from this memorable evening on the side of the statue, but four spelling errors crept in, as spotted on X by the former German journalist André Voigt.

On the Lakers side, the former back Von Wafer is renamed “Vom Wafer”. In the opposing camp, the former Spanish leader José Calderon recovers an extra s to read “José Calderson”. Finally, among the players who did not enter the game on “coach’s decision”, the word “decision” is misspelled twice as “decicion”. According to a Lakers spokesperson, these errors have been identified and will be quickly corrected.
