The affair surrounding team boss Horner is fueling rumors about Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 future at Red Bull. The world champion objects and tries to keep calm. But Verstappen also makes it clear which side he is on.

Amid the turmoil surrounding team boss Christian Horner and ongoing speculation about a change, Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has committed to Red Bull. “I know what they have done for me in my career. The intention is absolutely to stay with this team,” the Dutchman said on Wednesday ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull runs until 2028.

In the wake of the scandal surrounding race director Horner, who was accused of inappropriate behavior by an employee, Verstappen’s father Jos in particular distanced himself from the Brit. Although Horner was exonerated through internal investigations, he came under renewed pressure in the affair due to anonymously sent emails that contained sexually suggestive messages and photos. Jos Verstappen therefore called for Horner to withdraw and let it be known that his son Max was also aware of this opinion.

In the British Daily Mail, Verstappen Sr. said that Red Bull would “explode” if Horner remained in office. “The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can not go on like this. He plays the victim, but he is the one who causes the problems.” A violent attack on the team boss.

“I am my father’s son. It would be strange if I were on a different side,” said the three-time world champion. But he wants to concentrate on his performance and racing. “I enjoy it and am happy here. As long as we deliver our performance, there is no reason to leave,” said Max Verstappen.

But the world champion also made it clear: “Many people speculate why my father said certain things – but in the end only one person knows: himself. I didn’t ask him why.” Then Verstappen followed up: “My father is a very open person – and definitely not a liar!”

The 26-year-old won the opening race in Bahrain the previous week by a large margin. He was also unimpressed by the rumors about a move to Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton’s successor. “In life you never know 100 percent what will happen. But I don’t think about it too much,” said Verstappen.
