Formula 1 finalizes the purchase of the company that owns MotoGP: the price could be more than 4,000 million euros

After months of speculation, Formula 1 and MotoGP are getting closer and closer. According to the ‘Financial Times’ newspaper, Liberty Media, the company that owns F1, would be finalizing the purchase of Dorna Sports, the company that owns the rights to the premier category of motorcycling.

According to the aforementioned media, Liberty Media could acquire Dorna for just over 4,000 million euros. Thus, the ruler of Formula 1 prevails over the Qatari sports investment fund that owns PSG, and TKO, the group resulting from the alliance between the UFC and the WWE.

For the agreement to go ahead, the governing authorities must approve the transaction, since the investment fund CVC already had to get rid of the motorcycles in 2006 to be able to buy Formula 1, which it in turn sold to Liberty in 2017.

Bridgepoint and the Canada Pension Fund (CPPIB) are Dorna’s largest shareholders. According to Financial Times, Liberty’s offer would value Dorna at more than 4 billion euros, including its debt, and although the agreement seems close, the announcement is expected, at the earliest, next week.
