Former NBA Player Scot Pollard Receives Giant Heart Transplant to Save His Life

L’ex NBA Scot Pollardin the professional American basketball championship with Detroit, Sacramento, Indiana, Cleveland and Boston, underwent a very particular heart transplant: he needed a “giant” heart for his height, 2.10 metres. Scot Pollard tried from years of fighting an acute tachycardia, but the transplant was necessary due to the health conditions of the 49-year-old former centre.

The search for a donor almost immediately became very complicated because many organs ready for donation were not compatible with Pollard’s needs. Then, at the Vardeblit University Medical Center in Nashville, the right heart arrived: “I understand the tragedy that the family had to experience when they lost their loved one” he later commented on the sidelines of the operation “but for me it was a pure stroke of luck that a man as big as me and with a healthy heart died, it would not have suited any other person of normal height.” The story was told by his wife, Dawn, who narrated the story through social media. A daily story, from the first arrival at the hospital until the day of discharge: “We will accept the bad days, knowing that other good ones are coming”.
