Former Catania Director Pietro Lo Monaco Condemns Events in Padua: “You Do Not Represent Calcio Catania”

The former General Director of Catania Pietro Lo Monaco comments on the events in Padua via social media:

“I thought of my Catania, of its people, of all (and there are a great multitude) those who truly love it, of the city of Catania which needed everything except this umpteenth stab wound. I want to make two essential premises before going into the merits of the shameful episodes in Padua. There are two categories of fans. The ‘ordinary’ ones and the ‘existential’ ones. This category includes those fans whose team is part of their daily lives (family, work and their team). There aren’t many ‘existential’ fans in Italy, but I can say that Catania’s fans are fully part of them.”

“I remember when I arrived in Catania in Serie B many years ago in an environment reduced to a minimum, the thing that was repeated to me like a mantra. ‘Director, please note that for Catania S. Agata comes first and then Catania’, and what had seemed like blasphemy to me turned out to be a great truth over time. Catania is an entire city of fans. Passionate fans who are in love with their team.”

“An entire city cannot be represented by a small minority (the curves) who have usurped the title of Catania fan. You are not, you just used Catania to give meaning to your life of intimidation, arrogance and intimidating acts. You used Catania, you raped it otherwise no one would have ever noticed your presence in this life. ‘We are Calcio Catania’, how many times have I heard you chant this and I was horrified because you are not. He who loves does not use, does not rape and unfortunately your history has taught that you do just this. You do not represent the 20,000 who with adverse weather, different categories and more or less questionable events have always filled the Massimino. Catania resist, you will overcome this latest massacre.”
