Former Bundesliga Coach Florian Kohfeldt Resigns from KAS Eupen

Former Bundesliga coach Florian Kohfeldt has resigned from his position at Belgian first division club KAS Eupen with immediate effect.

The 41-year-old had “requested his release for sporting and personal reasons,” the club said in a press release on Saturday after the 4-0 defeat at Standard Liège at the end of the main round. “KAS Eupen regrets this step, but respects his wishes.”

The former coach of Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg hopes that “with this step the team will get an additional push for the play-offs and will be rewarded for our joint work at the end of the season.”

KAS General Director Christoph Henkel said: “We have not managed to convince Florian that we can achieve our goals together with him.”

Kohfeldt only moved to the Belgian first division club at the beginning of the season. After the main round, KAS Eupen now has to go into the relegation round, in which the four worst teams play two direct relegations and one team that plays relegation games.
