Forest fires advance in Malinalco and Ocuilan, Edomex; residents ask for help – El Sol de México

The State of Mexico continues to be one of the entities most affected by forest fires, which do not give up in the municipalities of Malinalco and Ocuilan, where brigade members along with volunteers fight to combat the fire that has affected large areas of grasslands and forest

The latest report from Conafor indicates that in the country there are 126 active forest fires registered in 19 states with a preliminary affected area of ​​8,669 hectares. In Edomex, five brigade members have died while fighting the fire.

In the Mexican entity, the fire devastates the mountains of Pachuquilla, La Cumbre and the tourist area of ​​Ahuehuete, so residents are asking for more help to mitigate the incidents.

In the Ahuehuete area, the concern is greater, as it is a tourist area and a mandatory stop for pilgrims on their journey to the Sanctuary of the Lord of Chalma, where the largest Virgin Mary in Mexico is located.

“We ask for help, the hill above Pachuquilla by la Peña has been burning since yesterday; the fire is advancing rapidly and is becoming uncontrollable, since citizens assisted in trying to put it out, but it was not possible, please We need help,” said Angélica, a resident of the area.

Likewise, in Ocuilan the authorities are fighting to combat the fire in the forests of Santa María Tlapauca and Ahuehuete, where Civil Protection brigades, Probosque, Municipal Police, Ejidales and Volunteers participate.

“We urgently need help in Ocuilan, please, the fire is already reaching the houses of Santa María Tlatucapa and the Virgen del Ahuehuete,” said a brigade member.

The community members asked for the help of local residents to join the combat brigades.

Likewise, the city council asked the communities of El Ahuehuete, Santa María and nearby areas to be attentive and closely follow the instructions of local authorities; At the moment they are monitoring the situation closely and will take the necessary measures to ensure your safety.

On Thursday afternoon, a helicopter from the lightning group discharged water on the Cumbre fire to try to control it.
