For the Latvian quartet, one victory is not enough for the quarter-finals in Spain – Basketball – Sportacentrs.com

• The Latvian team “Super Liga Pro” did not pass the quarter-finals in the first two stages. In the final tournament, the team consisted of Agnis Čavars, Edgars Krūmiņš, Mārcis Osis and Roberts Smildzejs. In the first game, the Latvians met the Spanish team “Timechamber” represented by three Serbs, which beat another Spanish team “Barcelona CBS” 21:16, to which the Latvian team lost in the previous two rounds.

• In the first minutes, the most visible player from the Latvians, both in a good and a bad sense, was Krūmiņš, who could not stop his opponent, but also himself organized three points for the Latvian team (3:3). Later, his long shot made it 7-5. Until the middle of the game time, the fight was very similar, which was also shown by the score on the scoreboard – 10:10.

• After Krūmiņš’s successful long shot and Oš’s two accurate free throws, the Latvian team gained the largest lead in the game (15:11). Osis continued to play aggressively in attack, taking advantage of the fact that the opponents have a norm of notes. Two more accurate free throws gave a five-point advantage (17:12). Čavars also hit from a distance, but Krūmiņš did not use the first opportunity to put an end to the game. In the second round, Krūmiņš was successful, bringing the victory to the Latvians with 21:15.

• In order to reach the quarterfinals, the Latvian team had to beat “Barcelona CBS”. A loss was also acceptable, but at least 16 points had to be scored in the game to be sure of advancing. The second game started much like the first, but with a lot more fouls. Krūmiņš was the leader of the Latvian team in attack, helping to keep up with the Spaniards (9:9). Towards the middle of the game, the Spaniards made a breakthrough, leading 14-11.

• Latvian basketball players urgently had to fight for the execution of the minimum program, because the fight for victory slipped out of hand (14:19). Čavars and Krūmiņš missed a long shot, while the Spaniards ended the game with free throws with the result 21:14.

• As a result, each team won one victory in the group, but Latvian basketball players scored the fewest points (35 vs. 36 and 37), thus not qualifying for the quarterfinals and ending their participation in the tournament.
