Football: Germany is finding its way back to its old strength

Germany also won its second friendly match of the European Championship year. After beating France 2-0, the European Championship hosts defeated the Netherlands 2-1 on Tuesday in Frankfurt and thus another European Championship group opponent of Austria. Meanwhile, the French celebrated a 3-2 win over Chile in Marseille. England drew 2-2 against Belgium in London thanks to a late Bellingham goal; the game was refereed by ÖFB referee Sebastian Gishamer.

The duel between the newly formed team of German national coach Julian Nagelsmann and the “Oranje” team started spectacularly. After strong preparatory work from Memphis Depay, Joey Veerman volleyed in to give the visitors the lead (4th). As against Germany, France initially fell behind early on, Marcelino Nunez scored for the Chileans after six minutes. Then Youssouf Fofana (19th) and Randal Kolo Muani (25th) turned the game around for coach Didier Deschamps’ team before the break. In the second period, Olivier Giroud added a goal (72nd), the South Americans only managed a follow-up goal from Dario Osorio (82nd).

Happy draw for England

At Wembley Stadium, England avoided their second defeat in just a few days. After the 0-1 defeat against Brazil, the “Three Lions” achieved a lucky draw against Belgium. Youri Tielemans gave the guests the lead twice with a brace (11th, 36th), goalie Jordan Pickford didn’t look good on the first goal.

In a duel between two European Championship participants, Slovenia defeated Portugal, led by captain Cristiano Ronaldo, 2-0 in Ljubljana. Czech Republic defeated Armenia 2-1 under the supervision of referee Julian Weinberger. Hungary defeated Kosovo 2-0, for Franco Foda it was the first defeat in the second game as team boss of the Kosovars.
