Fluminense Draws with Flamengo in Carioca Championship Semi-Final: Tricolor to Make Debut in Conmebol Libertadores 2024

Fluminense drew 0-0 with Flamengo this Saturday (16/03), at Maracanã, in the second game of the semi-final of the Campeonato Carioca, and left the competition. With the result, Tricolor ended the match with a 2-0 disadvantage on the aggregate score.

Fluminense returns to the field for Conmebol Libertadores 2024, with its debut scheduled for the week of April 3rd, away from home. Tricolor will meet their opponents in the group stage of the competition this Monday (18/03). The draw will be held at Conmebol headquarters, in Luque, Paraguay. Current champion, Tricolor will be seeded and will be in Group A.

FIRST TIME

Fluminense created the first big chance of danger in the 5th minute. André turned the game around to Marcelo, who crossed the ball into the area for Renato Augusto to take the first shot and send it over, raising the crowd. Afterwards, Arias took off on the right, invaded the area and rolled into the middle, but the opponent took possession. Tricolor continued to look for the attack and, after arrivals that were not converted into submissions, Arias crossed the ball and sent it across the baseline at 22.

At 30 minutes, Renato Augusto, centrally, looked for the goalkeeper’s right corner and the ball went close to the post. At 36, with a free kick, Marcelo knocked paint off the crossbar. In stoppage time, Arias took a risk from outside the area and the ball exploded in defense.

SECOND TIME

Fluminense continued to occupy the attacking field at the beginning of the second stage. In the 5th minute, Renato Augusto hit from a distance and the ball exploded onto the crossbar. At 9, Marquinhos crossed into the area and John Kennedy headed the ball without much danger. At 22, Keno passed the defender, invaded the area and hit hard for the goalkeeper to save well. Three minutes later, Marcelo and Keno scored and created a great opportunity, which ended with the full-back finishing off the post.

In the 27th minute, Keno broke the marking lines with a pass to John Kennedy, who had his shot blocked inside the area.
