Florian Kohfeldt Steps Down as Eupen Coach Before Play-Offs: Club Seeks Survival Without Him

Florian Kohfeldt (41) will not finish the season in Eupen. The German coach leaves the club just before the play-downs.

Eupen was victorious tonight against Standard (4-0).

“This was not a good game for us. We had some chances, but in general we deservedly lost,” said Florian Kohfeldt immediately after the match.

Not much later, he informed the players that he was leaving the club with immediate effect. Kohfeldt is resigning for sporting and personal reasons.

“KAS Eupen regrets his decision, but also respects it,” said the number 14 of the Jupiler Pro League.

I keep my fingers crossed for Eupen.

“I hope that this decision gives the team an extra push for the play-offs and our joint work is rewarded at the end of the season. I keep my fingers crossed for Eupen,” he says.

Kohfeldt’s dismissal is inopportune. Eupen will compete for retention in the Relegation Play-offs in the coming weeks.

The 41-year-old German arrived in the East Cantons at the beginning of this season. He had previously coached Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg.

Eupen: “We were unable to convince him”

“Despite our difficult situation in the rankings and missing play-off 2, we were recently on the right path together. We failed to convince Florian that we could achieve our goals together with him,” explains general manager Christoph Henkel out.

“We accept his wish to end his role as head coach. Now we have to focus on the remaining matches and staying in the competition. We are going for that with full conviction.”
