Fiorentina announced this Tuesday the death of Joe Barone, its general director, at the age of 57, two days after suffering a heart attack in his hotel in Bergamo. The Serie A match between Atalanta and Fiorentina which was to take place in the afternoon had been postponed.
“With deep pain and immense sadness, Fiorentina today loses one of its reference points, a figure who marked the recent history of the club and who will never be forgotten,” the club announced in a press release.
La Viola mourns the loss of “a man who offered his great professionalism, his heart and his passion for these colors, of a friend available and always close at all times, both the happiest and, above all, the most difficult”, six years after the death of club captain Davide Astori.
