Joe Barone, the general director of ACF Fiorentina, died on Tuesday at the age of 57.
Barone suffered a heart attack in the team hotel in Bergamo on Sunday. The Serie A game between Atalanta and Florence was then canceled.
Barone died in a clinic in Milan. Fiorentina announced the death of their club boss on Tuesday at 3:37 p.m.

“It is with deep and immense sadness that Fiorentina announces the loss of one of its figureheads, a person who marked the club’s recent history and who will never be forgotten. General director Giuseppe Barone died today in the San Raffaele hospital in Milan after suddenly falling ill on Sunday,” the Tuscan club wrote in a moving message.
Barone was the right-hand man of President Rocco Commisso (74), who bought Fiorentina in 2019.

The Florentines’ statement continued: “Rocco Commisso and his family, Daniele Pradè, Nicolas Burdisso, Alessandro Ferrari, Vincenzo Italiano, Cristiano Biraghi and everyone associated with Fiorentina are deeply shocked by the terrible loss of a man, who showed great professionalism and gave his heart and soul to these colors. He was a valued friend who always remained strong even in the happiest and most difficult moments. The entire Viola world extends its deepest condolences to Giuseppe’s wife Camilla, his children and the entire Barone family at this time of great sadness.”
