Fiorentina Manager Joe Barone in Critical Condition After Cardiac Arrest: Update on Condition Given by Club

Shortly before the league game against Bergamo, Florence boss Joe Barone suffered a cardiac arrest. The game was canceled. One night after the incident, the club provided an update on the official’s condition.

Joe Barone, the manager of Serie A club Fiorentina, is receiving intensive care treatment following a cardiac arrest he suffered shortly before a first division game at Atalanta Bergamo. As the Italian first division club announced, the general director was operated on in a Milan clinic.

He is in critical condition. A medical prognosis is not serious at this point. At the same time, the club confirmed that the 57-year-old Barone had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Family and players rush to the hospital

After the incident, Fiorentina’s game at Atalanta was canceled. According to Italian media reports, the club’s players and coaches as well as Barone’s wife rushed to the San Raffaele hospital in northeast Milan, less than an hour’s drive from Bergamo.

It was uncertain when the game between the two teams fighting for a place in the European Cup would be rescheduled.
