The attack on two journalists from Göttingen by suspected right-wing extremists must be renegotiated. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has overturned a ruling by the Mühlhausen Regional Court from September 2022. The Karlsruhe judges explained their decision as incorrect. The regional court in the Thuringian district town sentenced the two defendants to a suspended sentence and hours of work for grievous bodily harm. The mild sentence was met with massive criticism nationwide at the time. During the attack in 2018, the two journalists from Göttingen were attacked with baseball bats and knives and seriously injured.
