FC Bayern solved the mandatory task in Darmstadt without any problems. But two injuries are causing concern. Harry Kane crashes into the post with such force that the goal net breaks. New national player Pavlovic also has to leave the field.

After the eight-goal gala against Mainz, FC Bayern also safely completed the compulsory task against SV Darmstadt. The Munich team won 5:2 (2:1). And yet there remain worries after this afternoon, as Aleksandar Pavlovic, the team’s big newcomer, and Harry Kane, the team’s undisputed superstar, were injured. Pavlovic received the all-clear after the game.

“I don’t think we’re stumbling,” Thomas Tuchel, coach of Bayern, was convinced in an interview with Sky before the away game against the bottom of the Bundesliga. “We expect a win from ourselves, everyone expects a win. That’s why we don’t have much to gain other than the three points.” But the outsider missed the first big chance: Mathias Honsak was denied by Manuel Neuer (15th minute). Then things got even worse for Bayern because Tim Skarke scored to make it 1-0 for the hosts (29th).

But the surprising lead didn’t last long. Bayern turned the game around thanks to the outstanding Jamal Musialas. He scored after an assist from Kane to make it 1-1 (36th). A little later the Englishman was there himself and added Bayern’s second goal of the afternoon (45th + 1).

In the second half, Musiala made the decision after a fine solo performance (64th), before he made it 4-1 in an exemplary manner through Serge Gnabry (74th). Bayern’s Mathys Tel also scored (90+3) before Oscar Vilhelmsson (90+6) added the final goal.

By then Pavlovic and Kane were no longer on the pitch. The midfielder, who had just been called up for the German national team, clashed with his opponent in a header duel and had to be substituted in a daze (58th). Later he sat back on the bench with his eye swollen shut. “Nothing serious. I don’t have a cut and everything is fine with my head,” reported the 19-year-old.

In the 78th minute, Kane crashed his shin into the post while attempting a follow-up shot and even crushed the goal net with his force. This could be patched. After minutes of treatment, the center forward was replaced. “He sprained his ankle and had to put ice on his ankle. We still have to wait for an exact diagnosis. We hope that the moment of shock remains,” said Tuchel.

According to sporting director Christoph Freund, Kane will still travel to the English national team and be checked out by his medical examiner. “We are in close coordination. He won’t take any risks,” said Freund and added: “We hope that it’s not that bad and that he’ll be back on the pitch soon.”
