FC Bayern Twice Rejected Mega Offer for Ronald Araújo From FC Barcelona

Ronald Araújo from FC Barcelona was at the top of FC Bayern’s wish list in the winter. Now it comes out: The German record champion tried his luck twice with the Catalans – each time with a mega offer.

As the Spanish sports newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported on Friday, FC Bayern twice rejected an offer for Ronald Araújo from FC Barcelona last winter.

According to the report, the first offer had a total volume of 90 million euros. The Munich-based company offered 70 million of this as a fixed sum, and another 20 in the form of bonus payments. According to “MD”, Barca immediately rejected this offer.

Tuchel “fully involved” in Araújo poker

The German record champions then upped the ante again, not increasing the total, but improving the offer. In a second attempt, the Munich-based company increased the fixed sum to 80 million euros and reduced the bonus payments to ten million, according to the report. But here too the Catalans did not weaken.

Those responsible in Munich had apparently put a lot of effort into the transfer poker. The driving force was Thomas Tuchel, who was “fully involved” and even personally called his dream player to convince him to change – without success.

FC Bayern finds Dier as an alternative

In the end, FC Bayern had to shelve the Araújo transfer and look elsewhere. In their search for a new defender, the Munich team finally found what they were looking for at Spurs from Tottenham, from whom Eric Dier was signed.

The Englishman initially moved to Säbener Straße on loan, but has already fulfilled the conditions for a contractually binding purchase, according to a report from “The Athletic”. This means: Dier’s Tottenham contract (term until 2025) is now a Bayern contract until 2025.
