The most important things at a glance

Bayern boss announces Davies decision

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund gave a positive update on contract poker with Alphonso Davies. “There are conversations and the conversations are good and open. And then we’ll see in the next few weeks how it turns out,” said Freund on the sidelines of the Bayern U19’s 3-1 defeat against Olympiacos Piraeus in the quarter-finals of the Youth League , where, among others, board boss Jan-Christian Dreesen, trainer Thomas Tuchel and Uli Hoeneß were also on site. (Here you can read more about it.)

According to the Austrian, it is “not unlikely” that the 23-year-old will extend his contract with the German record champions: “Phonzie feels very comfortable in Munich and really enjoys playing for FC Bayern. I’m not negative about it at all,” said Freund. Davies has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid for months. According to reports, the extension is primarily about financial aspects. The left-back is said to be demanding an annual salary of almost 20 million euros. The pain threshold for the Munich team is 13-14 million euros.

No protest – Bayern in the Champions League without away fans

FC Bayern Munich will not protest against the exclusion of its fans from the next Champions League away game. The Munich team therefore accepts a penalty from the European Football Union (Uefa), as they announced on Tuesday.

After some Bayern supporters set off pyrotechnics and threw objects in the round of 16 at Lazio Rome once again in this premier class season, Bayern were given this penalty. The German record champions will therefore not issue any tickets to their fans for the away game of the quarter-finals, which will be drawn on Friday.

“We have to accept the punishment. Not only were pyrotechnics set off in the stands, but also targeted shots were fired onto the pitch, which put bystanders in immediate danger,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “The fact that we now have to do without the support of our own fans away from home hits us very hard.”

No return action? Ex-Bayern will be out for weeks

Former Bayern striker Joshua Zirkzee was injured in his club FC Bologna’s Serie A game against Inter Milan at the weekend. Now there is certainty about how long he will be out. “The examinations Joshua Zirkzee underwent this morning revealed a first-degree injury to his left hamstring, which is expected to last three to four weeks,” the club said.

This could also be relevant for Bavaria. Because the record champions have a right to buy back the Dutchman, who moved to Bologna for 8.5 million euros in the summer of 2022.

Due to Zirkzee’s good performance this season, Bayern’s supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, among others, speculated about a return campaign for the 22-year-old in an interview with the Italian “Gazzetta dello Sport” during the week. This season Zirkzee scored ten goals in 27 league games for Bologna.

Bayern star comments on his future

Dayot Upamecano is not thinking about saying goodbye to FC Bayern next summer. “No, not at all,” said the French central defender to “Kicker”. “I have a contract until 2026, I feel good – in the club and with my teammates. I want to stay here at FC Bayern and will keep pushing.”
