Bayern still managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Lazio Rome. The relief among players and coaches is palpable. However, Thomas Tuchel paid for the game with a painful injury.

The superstar was one of the first to rank the evening. “It was a perfect night, a big game for us,” praised Harry Kane on Amazon after being named player of the match. “We were 1-0 down after the first leg, which was a big moment in our season. It was a top, top performance.” Looking at the situation surrounding coach Thomas Tuchel, the English striker added: “It’s unusual. We have our responsibility as players in every game, in every competition. We can still improve.”

The relief at FC Bayern was almost tangible. After the 3-0 (2-0) win against Lazio Rome and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the record champions still have the chance to conclude the turbulent season with a victory in the premier class.

“We are very happy. We try to enjoy the result, regardless of what was in the newspapers,” said Thomas Müller, who emphasized the importance of the game. “I’ve always said that this isn’t a complete shambles. We have our problems on the football field, but today it was good.” But we also know that Lazio was not in its “best phase”. “It wasn’t salvation in our playing culture, but it was an important victory.”

“That was a very solid, disciplined performance,” analyzed coach Tuchel, who said he injured his toe by kicking an object before the game and arrived at the interview limping. “We managed to stay focused for over 90 minutes and didn’t do any crazy things. We knew we had to score at least two goals against an Italian team. It wasn’t as easy as it might have looked.” The quarter-finals were the clear goal. “Now you also need a bit of luck,” emphasized Tuchel. “We can’t rest now.”

Eberl talks about the Tuchel debate

Before the game, Bayern Munich’s new sports director Max Eberl had ruled out an immediate separation from Tuchel in the event of failure in the Champions League against Lazio. When asked whether the coach would then stay, Eberl replied on Prime Video: “Yes, there is no other opinion at the moment.” Tuchel will leave Bayern at the end of the season, a year before his contract expires.

When asked whether he had made any progress in the search for a coach, Eberl did not want to comment further. “That would be the quickest coaching hire there was in the Bundesliga if you were on March 1st. beginning and on March 6th. had a trainer. Especially since we still want to achieve something,” said the 50-year-old, who started his job with the Munich team at the beginning of the month.
