Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt was disappointed at the Sportschau microphone: “It was too easy for Augsburg to take the lead. We woke up too late offensively.” As a newcomer, it is still completely okay to have the best and legitimate hopes of staying in the class.

Heidenheim’s best hopes for DFB nomination

Augsburg’s coach Thorup had used the same starting line-up against the promoted team as in the exhilarating 6-0 win at Darmstadt 98 a week ago. At Heidenheim, top scorer Jan-Niklas Beste was on the field from the start after recovering from muscular problems.

The 25-year-old can have legitimate hopes for his first nomination before the squad announcement for the upcoming international matches next Thursday. Beste also appeared directly in the game, goalkeeper Finn Dahmen just cleared his shot from the near corner (10th) into a corner.

Augsburg acts, Heidenheim is stable at the back

Augsburg’s larger share of the game initially didn’t cause any problems for Heidenheim, the promoted team was stable at the back – but then fell behind. Kevin Müller was just able to deflect Patrick Mainka’s failed attempt to clear the ball around the post

At the following corner, the Heidenheim keeper was powerless: Gouweleeuw scored from close range with a drop-kick for Augsburg, who then had everything under control in an uneventful game. Little changed in the second half.

Müller directed Iago’s first notable shot (67′) onto the crossbar. Despite obvious efforts, Heidenheim himself hardly appeared offensively.
