Falling Short: Sacramento Kings Lose to Washington Wizards Despite Favorable Circumstances

In a game that they had no right to lose to be taken seriously in the Western Conference, the Kings managed to lose to the Wizards. The kind of lack of consistency that won’t make it into the post-season.

Mitigating circumstances for Sacramento: no Huerter, Lyles or Vezenkov, absent. Mitigating circumstances which should have made them win by only 20 points instead of 30 this evening. Instead, the Kings got off to a bad start and were already down 27-35 after the first quarter. Kyle Kuzma actively tries to drag the Kings lower than they already are by quickly scoring 18 points in the first half. Are the Kings completely down? Well Brian Keefe jumps at the chance to bring out the cannon and the tracks, and the Wizards take a good old family 18-0. De’Aaron Fox, back in the henhouse, already has 5 interceptions at halftime and the Wizards then only lead by two points.

This is where the Wizards front office plays its last card to try to make the world believe that its team would be competitive if it did not play the draft. The Wizards invited… a Lithuanian folk dance troupe to perform at halftime. Probably to try to distract Domantas Sabonis but know that the method seems promising in many respects. Indeed, here we suspect the Wizards of implementing this stratagem so that the fans flee during the intermission just to be able to bring in Jared Butler and Jules Bernard in the third quarter. In any case, Domas is quite discreet and below his standards in scoring and creation: 14 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists tonight and not the impact of the year on defense. And the Kings are falling behind, little by little, again.

The 15th seed Wizards just took down the 6th seed Kings… 😳

The ball circulates well on the Kings side and it finds the basket on occasion, but in the end Mike Brown’s men will therefore fail to beat the Wizards who were nevertheless doing their best to lose. One night at 28% from the parking lot is far too little and is one of the big factors costing the Kings a valuable victory tonight. De’Aaron Fox missed ten alone this evening (25 points at 10/30 on shots), Malik Monk six (20 points at 1/7 from distance). On the Wizards side, Kyle Kuzma (31 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists) had a blast, Richaun Holmes (16 rebounds) harvested and Jules Bernard did not return.

The Kings forgot to unwrap their victory gift, that’s a defeat that damages the capital’s tank and therefore doesn’t help anyone. A bad operation on both sides, the Kings really wanted to ruin everything.
