FABO Herons Montecatini is the first finalist of the 2024 LNP Italian Cup of the National Serie B, beating Liofilchem Roseto 72-68 in Rome in a heated semi-final. First half characterized by a Rosetan style, with the Herons doing well in coming back at the end of the second period. Second 20 minutes point by point, with Fabo doing well in the final with Arrigoni and Benites being decisive. For Montecatini 17 points from Radunic, 14 from Benites and 11 from Arrigoni; for Roseto 16 from Durante and 13 each from Klyuchnyk and Durante.
Santiangeli and Mantzaris give the initial +5 to Roseto (2-7 in 2nd); 5 points from Benites equalize for the Herons (7-7 in the 4th). Liofilchem extends their lead with Klyuchnyk and Durante (9-15 in 6th). Tamani, Santiangeli and a 4-point play from Durante give the Abruzzo team a +14 (11-25 in the 8th), against a Fabo team that loses numerous balls. Dell’Uomo and Sgobba bring Fabo back to -8 at the first break (17-25).
Roseto starts very strong in the second quarter, with Klyuchnyk and Mantzaris who make Liofilchem extend, up to +16 in the 16th (22-38). From there the reaction of the Herons, who posted a 15-0 with Natali and Radunic unleashed, coming back into contact (37-38 in the 19th). 39-40 Roseto at the long interval.
In the third period Roseto tries a new attack with Petracca, Durante and Santiangeli (43-51 in the 25th). Montecatini returns with Chiera, Sgobba and Benites (51-53 at the end of the period), in a partial which sees the scores drop compared to the first 20 minutes.
A three-point play by Natali marks the overtaking of Herons at the start of the last quarter (57-56 at the 31st), in an increasingly heated and balanced match, with a period that proceeds point by point. In the final there are overtaking and counter-overtaking: Dell’Uomo for +1 Herons, two free throws from Klyuchnyk bring Roseto back ahead. We enter the final minute, a 3-point play by Arrigoni for +2 Fabo (70-68 with 46 seconds left). Mantzaris misses a 3 for Roseto, the rebound rewards Montecatini, with Benites being fouled and making the two free throws for +4 with 19 seconds left.
