Exploring the French Open 2024 Badminton Tournament: Prize Money, Schedule, and Venue

While the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour 2024 resumed in Germany last week following a three-week hiatus, many star shuttlers opted out of the tournament. This is simply because the German Open was a BWF Super 320 event, and as such, did not offer much in terms of prize money or BWF points. Therefore, the ongoing French Open 2024 saw a lot of badminton players stepping out on the court after months. But how significant is this tournament? Let us find out.

The French Open was held for the first time in 1909, making it one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world. It is organised by the French Badminton Federation, or Fédération Française de Badminton (FFBad), with sanction from the BWF. The tournament was recognised as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events in 2018.

British shuttler George Allan Thomas and France’s Henri Pellizza are the joint-holders of the record for the most title wins in the men’s singles category (four wins). In the women’s singles division, French badminton player Yvonne Girard has won the most titles (six). Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie and China’s Chen Yufei are the reigning champions in the men’s and women’s singles divisions respectively.

As the badminton tournament enters its business end, we take a look at the prize money on offer at the French Open 2024, the schedule and venue for the finals, and where you can live stream the competition.
