Exploring the Controversial World of Amedeo Avondet: Russia, Journalism, and Politics

On the Ig profile of the Turin native Amedeo Avondet23 years old, university law student, there is space for all his passions: Russia, journalism and politics.
In some videos the young man makes no secret of having a real veneration for the values of Russian society: family and friendship first and foremost, but Russian girls also reflect his ideals by being very “serious”, on the other hand everyone they get married very young “I’m already old here” he adds betraying a half smile in one of his reels for Instagram.
Russia is a beautiful place, from Amedeo’s stories, and it couldn’t be otherwise: given that the 23-year-old is considered one of the spokesmen of Russian propaganda not only in Italy, but also in Europe.

The passion for Russia born with Judo

A passion born when he started practicing Judo as a child (Putin was President of the International Judo Federation at the time) and which was strengthened as a teenager (Avondet studied at the Valsalice high school in Turin) with the video game Il-2 Sturmovik and simulations flying on Soviet planes of the Second World War. Naturally, as the young Russophile from Turin grew up he developed a real admiration for Putin, “Italy could use someone like him” he would have stated several times.

The scoop that links him to the secret services

In short, Putin aside, at least here in Italy, the young Amedeo, if he limited himself to saying that Russian girls are serious and they get married much earlier, he could say and write what he would like, being an aspiring journalist, the problem is that his name since February 13, 2024 is linked to the world scoop on the murder of Russian defector Maxim Kuzminov, entitled “Traitors do not live long”. The pro-Putin online site Il Correspondente (now unreachable), with which it collaborates, was the first to reveal the identity of the victim, found lifeless in Spain, fueling rumors about the alleged links between the 23-year-old from Turin and Russian intelligence.

Pressed during the La7 broadcast, L’Aria che tira, about his relations with the secret services, Avondet denied being part of it.

Marco Mancini (former head of Secret Services), guest on David Parenzo’s show, pressed the 23-year-old at length with direct questions:

“In the dynamics that you described, that is, the murder of that Russian officer who defected, is that man a traitor or someone who was seeking freedom?”

“A traitor, that’s why I think he deserved to die” replied Avondet, admitting that he shared the methods and political ideas of the secret services.

As regards the collaboration with the pro-Putin site, the 23-year-old declared that he did not write the article, that he does not know who the director of the site is and where the headquarters are, and finally stated that the collaborators (who do not know each other to guarantee anonymity) are contacted via telegram.

In short, a decidedly out of the ordinary experience for him who does not yet have a journalist’s card (at least not in Italy), but began writing at a very young age for the diocesan weekly La Voce e il Tempo, and then moved on to local and national newspapers , in Italy and Russia, Avondet also worked as a war correspondent at the Special Forces Brigade of the Russian Ministry of Defense which even sent him to Donbass.

The young man responds to the flurry of questions about his collaboration and the nature of the site, he does not shy away from those who seek links with Russian secret services, but there is one that puts him in particular in crisis, and it is the simplest: where is it? At the time of the interview he is in Moscow, but he cannot add details, there is too much fear that the Ukrainians could intercept and kill him.
