Exploring Olympic Sport and Promotion of Sports News at the “Olympic Hiero” Conference

Olympic Hiero” this is the title of the conference organized by the cultural association Alexandria – Culture and development of the Mediterranean” at the OM Corbino high school in Syracuse on March 22nd. The meeting, which will be held starting from 9.30 in the Aula Magna of the high school in viale Regina Margherita, is part of the three-year itinerant project “Chroniclers of ancient and modern sport”.

The Syracuse conference, which also benefits from the patronage of the Italian Sports Press Union, Sicily section, will see the presence of qualified speakers who will delve into Olympic sport and the promotion of sports news. After greetings from the manager Lilly Fronte, the sports historian/Alexandria Enzo Pennone will report on “A king, a horse, a poet: Pindar at Hieron’s palace”; will follow”Pausanias traveling in search of samples” by Gianluca Punzo (sports historian /ITET Dante Alighieri-Cerignola/FG), “Athlete and poet in the ancient world: inseparable combination” di Heather Reid (Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa); “Sport is also a question of geometry and physics” Edoardo Petagna (physicist/Alexandria), “Diplomacy in sport” by Raffaele Ciccarelli (journalist/Alexandria), Judo: a «Storm» that never passes the life of Nicola Tempesta, Neapolitan judoka by Gianluca Punzo; Ancient roots of modern judo in search of a new Paideia by Giuseppe Tribuzio (sociologist/University of Bari) and the video Olympic Horses Moderator: Barbara Baraldi (Alexandria). The project that follows the tracks for information on sports events from yesterday and today is divided into fifteen stages: Syracuse, Catania, Catanzaro, Crotone, Taranto, Caserta, Naples, Rome, Ravenna, Piacenza, Alessandria, Pavia, Milan, Bergamo, Cortina d’Ampezzo. Art, sport, culture and history this year will be welcomed in the historic Corbino venue for such a prestigious event which, obviously, we await with pleasure.
