Expanding the Future of Archery: Fitarco’s Innovative Project Sponsored by Sport and Health

The federation’s promotional activity, conveyed through projects subsidized by Sport and Health, continues towards students, families and training

Not only high competitive spirit and arrows that can qualify for Paris 2024. The 2023 season of the Italian bow is certainly aimed at the exploits of the Azzurri who will have to earn passes for the next Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris from this outdoor season, but at Fitarco we also look further afield, positioning our sights towards the future of the movement. And to guarantee a future worthy of the successes achieved in the last four years, the federation can only focus on young people and their parents, to further broaden the base of practitioners. How to do? Everything passes through the archery societies. To date, the movement has 527 affiliates throughout the national territory and it is precisely the companies, assisted by the regional committees, that have been called into question to take part in the promotional project “At school with the bow” that Fitarco will develop during the year thanks to funding from Sport and Health. The objective of the project is simple: to introduce younger people to archery but, at the same time, further broaden the audience of practitioners by also including their parents or relatives in the activities. The companies that intend to join this innovation will have until Monday 27 March to give their availability to the federation, after which they will have the task of taking newbies to the shooting ranges to introduce them to the oldest of modern sports up close.

The project

The objectives are multiple. First of all, we expand the base of practitioners and bring younger people closer but, at the same time, we try to involve them together with their parents or relatives, to give them an engaging experience, to be shared and remembered. Newbies who join a company participating in the project will be entitled to a free archery course lasting six months which includes two hours of lessons per week. Not just practical though, because together with the basic course there are in-depth studies that involve both the children and their parents, as well as the technicians and managers of the companies themselves. The element that characterizes this project is in fact the training part which involves the presence or remote interventions of sports psychologists who will propose mental preparation techniques useful not only for sporting performance but also for everyday life. Let’s think, for example, of concentration exercises that are useful both for archers and for young people in their school career. Still in relation to the training, participants will also be able to enjoy the useful advice of a nutritionist, Dr. Rebecca Gennari who, through various methods of communication, will provide the information necessary to know in detail what the correct lifestyles to follow are, giving advice useful on the best diet to maintain before, during and after sporting activity. Precisely in this regard, on the occasion of the indoor tricolors in Rimini, some Italians were involved as “testimonials” of the project and soon we will know the contents that the nutritionist recorded together with the national champions Cinzia Noziglia, Lucilla Boari, Irene Franchini and Elisabetta Mijno, as well as other video contributions made with the Italian Lorenzo Gubbini and the Olympian Mauro Nespoli. To encourage younger people to practice archery, an online comic entitled “Golden Arrow, until the last arrow” is also being created which will allow highlighting in a modern key, with the support of a dedicated communication on federal social profiles, what are the benefits brought by archery practice, also giving an insight into group dynamics and highlighting the qualities of archery environments. If this project subsidized by Sport and Health hits the mark as the blue bearers know how to do on the international field, there will be numerous new archers among the ranks of competitors. Alternatively, participants who do not continue with the activity will be able to say that they had a great experience with their family and that they know how to shoot an arrow. Does it seem like little to you?
