Exciting Return of FQ Junior Cup to Sunshine Coast Football Club

Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce the return of the FQ Junior Cup to be held at the Maroochydore Football Club on the Sunshine Coast from Sunday, 23 June to Tuesday, 25 June.

Following the success of the 2023 FQ Junior Cup, this year’s edition will follow a similar structure with Under 12 boys and Under 12/13 girls FQ Academy regional sides and South East Queensland FQ Academy clubs set to compete over three days for the Cup Championship title.

Football Queensland is excited to return to the Sunshine Coast with this year’s edition of the FQ Junior Cup which last year saw over 250 games played,” Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said.

“The tournament will help to connect our top junior players from every region in the state and provide them with more high-quality match minutes as well as giving supporters additional opportunities to see the young stars in action.

“The cup forms part of the FQ Academy program for players in the state pathway and provides another platform for talent identification and player development tracking before the start of the WinterFest24 carnival set to be held at the same venue in the days following the cup’s completion.

Football Queensland would like to thank the Sunshine Coast Council and Visit Sunshine Coast for their ongoing support of our state’s up-and-coming junior stars by helping to create a memorable event for all involved.

“We look forward to welcoming all players, coaches, referees and supporters to the FQ Junior Cup in Maroochydore and we encourage all attendees to also spend some time exploring all the Sunshine Coast region has to offer.”

Sunshine Coast Major Events Board Chair John Williams said bringing together Queensland’s top junior players from the FQ Academy regions and clubs for the cup will continue to strengthen the Sunshine Coast’s position as the home of junior football in the state.

“Along with the FQ Junior Cup, the Sunshine Coast will also host the WinterFest24 Junior Carnival in the days after the cup and the Pacific Club Championships in September as we look to grow the region’s reputation as a top event and sports training destination for football,” Williams said.

“Hosting these events are particularly important for all aspiring young footballers as the region looks forward to potentially hosting preliminary football matches during the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.”
