Excitement Builds for XDefiant Release: Will it be a Hit or Miss?

XDefiant fans are already excited again, as many seem to believe that the game’s long-awaited, much-delayed official release date is already approaching. We have to wait and see whether they are once again under illusion or whether the game finally comes out.

But this time the hype comes from something that comes from an official source. The XDefiant rewards page on Ubisoft Connect has revealed new information about the upcoming first season of the FPS title, including a new faction type from another Ubisoft FPS franchise.

Will XDefiant be a disaster like Skull and Bones?

Having already featured characters from Far Cry 6’s Libertad, Ghost Recon’s Phantoms, Splinter Cell’s Echelon, The Division’s Cleaners and Watch_Dogs’ Dedsec, Rainbow Six looks to be the next game to join the fun. Unfortunately Skull and Bones is missing, haha, all joking aside, we hope that XDefiant doesn’t turn out to be a failure like the pirate game!

“Season One introduces GSK (Border Guard Command) Team Rainbow as they use their anti-terrorism training to disrupt their enemies,” the screenshot reads. “They can deploy electrified barbed wire for defense, block incoming enemy devices with their active defense system, and blind multiple enemies with lightning charges on their G52 Tactical Shield.” Sounds a lot like Rainbow 6 Siege? It is!

This new information about the first season leads the community to believe that the game is finally close to release, which could happen sometime in March. Another new hint of free rewards in early February only added to the excitement.

XDefiant with problematic startup

In a document from a recent Ubisoft investor meeting, the release of XDefiant’s first season was dated March 31, so it looks like the agonizing wait could be over in just a few weeks. Season one will follow sometime after season zero.

XDefiant had originally targeted a “late summer” release window in 2023, but failed to meet it due to issues with the submission process, and was pushed back again in October 2023 after the developers encountered issues with the game’s party system and other issues encountered with the netcode. The fact that something like this only became apparent shortly before the release obviously didn’t make the community particularly hopeful about the final release. Since Call of Duty is very weak at the moment, the possible release at the end of March isn’t that bad for Ubisoft, so they are lucky in misfortune.

Stay tuned, FPS fans, because another multiplayer shooter could be on the horizon very soon.
