EUR 60 million wasted. The giant announces: It’s the end of Football

This is not Chelsea’s best season. The team led by Mauricio Pochettino is in 11th place in the Premier League and is 17 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. This also puts Chelsea’s appearance in the next edition of the Champions League into question. Chelsea reached the final of the English League Cup, but lost 0-1 to Liverpool in extra time after a goal by Virgil van Dijk. Now it is still in the FA Cup, where it will face Manchester City in the semi-finals. It is worth adding that Chelsea spent nearly EUR 470 million on transfers during the summer window.

Chelsea spent millions of euros on him. And now he won’t play until the end of the season

One of the players who joined Chelsea last summer is Romeo Lavia. The Londoners fought for the Belgian against Liverpool and paid Southampton EUR 62.1 million. This made Lavia one of the biggest transfers in the club’s history. However, this season has been a complete failure for him. So far he has played only one match – specifically 32 minutes against Crystal Palace (2-1) just at the end of December last year. Then he suffered a thigh injury, and at the beginning of the season he was undergoing treatment for an ankle injury. Now we know that Lavia will not improve this result during the season.

Chelsea announced in an official statement that Lavia will not play until the end of the 23/24 season due to an injury. “Lavia will unfortunately miss the remainder of this campaign. Recent medical tests have confirmed that the Belgian will no longer play this season,” we read in the report. “As you know, despite my countless efforts, I will miss the rest of the season. It was a frustrating season for me in which I was unable to help my teammates. I am confident that I gave my all every day to come back. We will share many special moments together.” See you soon,” the Belgian wrote on the X website.

Before joining Chelsea, Lavia was a player for Anderlecht, Manchester City (2020-2022) and Southampton (2022-2023). The Belgian joined the Saints team in the summer of 2022 for EUR 22.6 million. There he played 34 matches (including 29 at the Premier League level), in which he scored one goal and made one assist.

Chelsea will play their next league match against Burnley. This meeting will take place next Saturday at 16:00.
