end of season for Botman with Newcastle and worse

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman will be out of action for six to nine months after suffering a serious knee injury, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Dutchman, who left Lille in 2022 to join St James’ Park, was injured during his side’s 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

He will have anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery next week.
“A scan confirmed that he had injured his anterior cruciate ligament”Newcastle said in a statement.

“The Dutch central defender suffered a knee injury in September 2023 and opted for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan. a decision which allowed him to return to the game in December. Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Sven a full and speedy recovery.

Newcastle, already without Nick Pope, Joelinton, Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes and Kieran Trippier due to injuries, are 10th in the English Premier League table with 10 games remaining and will host West Ham United, 7th, on March 30.
