“Because I have been ‘caught in the rain’ before, I want to ‘hold an umbrella’ for the disabled people who are in trouble.” This is what Bai Ke, the founder of Henan Qiangren Sports Goods Co., Ltd., often talks about. Bai Ke is a disabled person, and more than half of his company’s employees are also disabled. In 2011, Bai Ke began to process and produce basketballs. With the help from all walks of life, he will make the next step to make the company bigger and stronger. After the success of his business, he actively provided employment opportunities for disabled people and gave back to society.

On the morning of March 4, the workshop of Henan Qiangren Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. located in the southern section of Yanshan Road was buzzing with machine sounds and a busy scene. At one end of the production line, two workers inflate, polish, and apply glue to the mid-size tires, and then hand them over to the next process after drying. On the production line, some workers use molds to cut the leather, and other workers trim and polish it. Then they paste the leather piece by piece on the surface of the mid-size tire, and then vulcanize and bake it. After more than ten processes, the basketballs “walked” off the production line one by one.

“We are seizing the time to complete the order tasks.” Bai Ke told reporters that the current production is 30,000 basketball production orders from Tianjin. The workers worked overtime and were able to produce 2,000 pieces a day.

Bai Ke (first from right) is discussing issues with employees.

The reporter learned that Henan Qiangren Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. has 30 employees, including 17 disabled employees, who are basically on the production line.

Chen Guangsi, a glue-painting worker, was born with a leg disability and was unable to walk normally. His job is to put the mid-ball tires into the automatic rubber brushing machine and then take them out after the rubber brushing is completed. Chen Guangsi lives in Lincheng District and will work here in 2020. “I can get a monthly salary of more than 4,000 yuan.” Chen Guangsi said with a smile. It is not easy to find such a job, and he must work hard. Zhao Depan, a disabled person, used to set up a street stall to repair shoes and has been working here for 5 years. Zhao Depan is mainly responsible for trimming and polishing the cut leather. He works quickly and has good craftsmanship, and is trusted by everyone. Vulcanizing machine operator Jia Dexi is an old employee who lives in the Economic Development Zone. He is very happy to be able to find a job at home. “I am very happy and proud to be able to earn money to support my family through my own efforts.” Jia Dexi said that everyone cooperates with each other and gets along harmoniously at work, and they also help each other like a family after get off work.

“As long as the position is suitable for disabled people, we will try our best to arrange for disabled people to take up the job.” Bai Ke said that currently, except for porters and logistics personnel, other positions are basically filled by disabled people. Although they are disabled, they are able to realize their own value with their hands, become the backbone of the enterprise, and are confident in life.

Bai Ke is 53 years old. His legs were disabled due to a medical accident when he was a child. Many of his dreams could not be realized, but fate also opened another window for him.

After graduating from junior high school, Bai Ke worked as a worker in the ball-making workshop of a company in the city. His main task was to make basketballs. In 2001, Bai Ke went to developed areas in the south to learn ball-making techniques. In 2018, Bai Ke rented land in the southern section of Yanshan Road, built a factory area of more than 1,000 square meters, and built a production workshop of more than 600 square meters, with an annual output of more than 200,000 basketballs and an annual output value of more than 7 million yuan.

Through starting a business, Bai Ke has allowed his family to live a happy life, but he has not forgotten the hardships of life for disabled people and has always opened the door to employment to disabled people. Under the leadership of Bai Ke, Henan Qiangren Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. has received attention and support from all walks of life, and has been named by the Municipal Disabled Persons’ Federation as the Luohe City Grassroots Party Organizations Disabled Poverty Alleviation Base and the Luohe City Disabled Persons’ Employment Assistance Base. Bai Ke was named the Luohe City Entrepreneurship Star in 2021.

Currently, Bai Ke is planning to add a production line to produce volleyballs and footballs, and expand sales channels through e-commerce to allow more disabled people to find employment.
