Take the bow, calmly prepare the arrow, place it and stretch the trigger back until it reaches face height and release it firmly. That is, more or less, the process to follow to make a shot in archery, a discipline that is experiencing a good time in Portugalete thanks to the club Arkunautakan entity that began its journey almost seven years ago with the participation of three people and that, currently, has 47 athletes in its humble structure. “When we created the club our goal was for Bizkaia’s goalkeepers to have a place to train. Walking and working day by day has brought us to the point where we are now,” said J.uanjo Rueda, coach of the Portuguese squad.

That path that is being traveled from Arkunautak can be seen in the preparation sessions that they do in a space enabled at the Santa María School. In those training sessions you can see the good atmosphere of the team and the goalkeepers’ desire to continue improving and advancing. The resources that the club has are limited and that means that, for example, do not have an outdoor place where they can trainwhich greatly limits them when it comes to competing in various forms of archery. “It is something we are working on, but we know that it is a very complicated issue.” the fact of being able to have an outdoor space in which to train. We will continue knocking on doors and trying,” Rueda revealed.

Arkunautak is working on creating a sustainable and long-lasting sports project that serves to engage more and more people in a sports practice that dates back thousands of years, because the coexistence between humans and the bow as a weapon dates back to time immemorial. For all these reasons, Arkunautak gives supreme importance toto archery school, a space in which, Every Monday, we work to bring boys and girls closer to this sport and evolve in this practice.

The learning process of this practice is long since you have to internalize a whole mechanic, a protocol when shooting and in this, according to Rueda estimates “depending on each case it may take two years to achieve refined mechanics. Then there are people who are born with that gift and it costs them less, but in addition to the mechanics, the mental aspect is very important. This sport requires large doses of concentration, you have to be very focused at all times,” developed the coach of the jarrillero club.

All that quiet and constant work that is carried out training by training, shot by shot, is bearing fruit, since during this season the entity’s archers have achieved several medals. “The balance I make of this season is very good. I am very satisfied. I am left with the regret that they have not taken the step of presenting themselves to the archer competitions. The results are very good and it is to be very satisfied and enjoy them, but these are streaks and what we have to focus on is to continue working well to continue growing the club and that, also, the results arrive,” explained Rueda. The greatest source of sporting success for the jarrilla entity has been the over 50 category. from naked bow modality in which three archers from the club have occupied the three podium boxes in the Bizkaia Championship.

Earlier this month, at an event held in Miribilla, The jarrilleros shooters received the five medals won in the territorial championships. “It has been a great result”, indicated Txabio Rodríguez, who won first place in this category. Furthermore, in his case it is worth adding silver medals in the Euskadi Championship and in the Basque League. Txabio came to archery from another sporting discipline, the mountains. “It is an individual sport, but at the same time it is also collective. You pay attention to what others do, the rest helps you improve… Furthermore, when I go to shoot I am in a state of absolute tranquility, I live a moment of Zen, focused on what I have to do at that moment and disconnecting from the rest of the things,” said one of the pitchers of this club in which there are people arrivals from other points in Bizkaia such as, for example, Bilbao and Arrigorriaga.

Looking to the future, this club, which will soon celebrate its seventh anniversary, sets itself the challenge of continuing to grow and continue attracting more people; And now, the icing on the cake, would be being able to have that long-awaited outdoor space in which to train. “We encourage people to come and try this sport that has no age. Surely they are going to repeat because it is engaging,” concluded Juanjo Rueda, the coach of Archanautsclub that seeks to ensure that more and more jarrilleros hit the target.
