Employee Accusing Christian Horner of Inappropriate Behavior Seeks Media Attention: Albers Believes Crisis at Red Bull Racing Far From Over

Christijan Albers believes that it is a logical consequence that the employee who accused Christian Horner of inappropriate behavior wants to go to the media. The former F1 driver also states that advisor Helmut Marko had a greater role in the success of Red Bull Racing than Horner.

Since the beginning of February, when De Telegraaf published the news, Red Bull Racing has been in the spotlight. After the accusations, Red Bull launched an independent investigation, which was completed on Wednesday before the first race weekend of 2024. Horner was allowed to stay, but the statement was not very transparent. The next day, the anonymous email containing alleged evidence against Horner arrived, after which the rumors about Horner and advisor Helmut Marko only increased. Even Max Verstappen, who still has a contract until the end of 2028, is part of the rumors and is said to have a clause if Marko, who was able to avoid a suspension by Red Bull last weekend after a conversation with CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, leaves. Mercedes, especially Toto Wolff, announced several times last weekend that Verstappen is welcome.

Albers over Horner

In the podcast of The Telegraph Albers says that he does not think the crisis at Red Bull Racing is over. The Dutchman can therefore understand why the employee wants to go to the media, if the rumors are true, and is of the opinion that Horner appears ‘terrifying’ in an attempt to keep his job. “Because the way it is all taken up and it is simply dismissed, you make someone on the other side extra rude and angry. I think there’s a lot more to come. Then that urge and envy to get that number one position and just cut off everyone’s heads.”

Marko more important than Horner?

Albers also states that Marko has played a more important role in bringing in drivers, such as Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen, than Horner. “If you look very realistically: which drivers did he put in the car and which drivers did Dr. Marko put in the car? Looking at success. With all due respect, all success formulas come from Marko. So if you really look at who view on talent, then there is absolutely no discussion about that. That is simply Dr. Marko. He has always made the right choices.”
