Ukraine secures a ticket for the European Championships in Germany. The team turns the game around against Iceland and prevails in a dramatic play-off final. The team’s celebration is endless after the victory.

Ukraine has secured the penultimate European Championship ticket and is heading to the European Championships in Germany. The team, which had to play its home game in Wroclaw, Poland because of the Russian war of aggression, won the play-off final 2-1 (0-1) against Iceland in front of 40,000 spectators.

Albert Gudmundsson (30th minute) initially gave the Icelanders the lead. But then Ukraine turned the game around, as they did in the play-off semi-final against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Viktor Zyhankow equalized the lead after the break with a left-footed shot from the corner of the penalty area (54′). Ukraine pressed for victory and scored in the final stages to secure qualification for the European Championships. Mychajlo Mudryk from Chelsea FC scored the much-celebrated winning goal with a shot from 16 meters.

Iceland could no longer answer, Ukraine made it 2-1 with a lot of passion over time. At the European Championships, the team will face Belgium, Romania and Slovakia in the group stage. It is the Ukrainians’ fourth participation in the European Championship.

“I hope that our team can convey something positive to the people of Ukraine,” said Ukraine coach Sergei Rebrov. The mission is “to show that we are still alive, that we are still fighting against the Russians, that we still need support from Europe.”

Poland wins on penalties in Wales

Robert Lewandowski and the Polish national team have secured their final ticket to the European Championships. Poland won 5-4 on penalties in Wales. After 120 minutes the score was 0-0 in a hard-fought game.
