Dwight Howard Signs with Mets of Guaynabo for 2024 Season in Puerto Rico League

No team of the NBA want to have the former champion and Olympic gold, who played in the Taiwanese league last season. This year, resigned to not returning to the US, he signed for the Mets of Guaynabo.

The American center Dwight Howard -eight-time All-Star and three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year NBA– will play with the Mets of Guaynabo in the 2024 season of the National Superior Basketball, the main Liga de Puerto Rico.

This was confirmed by the club itself on its Facebook account with several photos of Howard upon his arrival on the island, dressed in a coat with the number 42 on his left shoulder, white pants and dreadlocks on his head.

“PR BOUND” (In Puerto Rican soil), highlights the Guaynabo quintet attached to the images of Howard.

The basketball player played in the NBA for 18 seasons with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia Sixers.

His last season in the NBA was in 2021-22 with the Lakers.

The head coach of the Mets is the former NBA José Juan Barea.

Other players who will play with the Mets are also former NBA Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Renaldo Balkman.

Hollins-Jefferson played six seasons in the NBA with the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers. He has also played internationally in Türkiye and the Philippines.

Balkman, for his part, competed in seven campaigns in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets.

The Mets open the season on April 3 when they host the Manatee Bears at the Mario ‘Quijote’ Morales Coliseum. (EFE)
