Draymond Green Reflects on 2022 NBA Finals Success and Golden State Warriors’ Postseason Challenges

Draymond Green returns to the 2022 NBA Finals taking inspiration from what LeBron James said in the podcast he hosts with JJ Redick, Mind The Game: The reason why Golden State Warriors had success in the Finals against the Boston Celtics is the greater IQ.

Green echoed James’ statement giving a further explanation, his point of view on the NBA Finals in which the Warriors won the 4th title of the Steve Kerr era.

In some ways it’s true! I think we had better IQ at the time. I also think it’s about something more: we had more IQ, it’s true, but also contextualized to that moment

Green (disappointed that LBJ didn’t stop by his podcast before starting his own) has continued explaining that it wasn’t simply about the players on the pitch but also how Coach Kerr and his entire staff were able to read the game and fix the team, especially after going 2-1 down.

The Celtics were still very young, they had never been to the Finals. I think in that context our IQ was higher, as was that of our coaching staff at the time because of the adjustments we made in that series. It made a difference

This year, however, the GSW postseason is at risk: Green and his teammates still have to get a place in the Play-Ins, but the road to the Playoffs is really complicated. The golden years are over.
