During the Primavera championship match between Juventus and Sassuolo, Cinquegrano gets injured: the neroverdi put the ball out, the coach asks his players not to return the ball

The decision taken on Monday afternoon by Paolo Montero, coach of Juventus Primavera, during the championship match against Sassuolo’s Under 19 team is controversial. The former defender, one of the three Juventus players who missed the penalty in the 2003 Champions League final at Old Trafford against Milan, pushed his players not to return the ball to their opponents. The black-greens had thrown her out to allow treatment for a companion.

As the action developed, Juventus then scored a goal, thus closing the gap by sealing the 2-1. It all happened when Sassuolo defender Cinquegrano was injured, but the Bianconeri continued to play, despite the opponent collapsing on the ground. The referee did not stop the game – and it is he who must do so by regulation – since it was not a head injury or an apparently serious one. Only a few seconds later Sassuolo kicked the ball out to allow Cinquegrano to be rescued.

Montero asked the team not to give it to the neroverdi: «He took it! Francé, don’t give it to him.” Then the Sassuolo Primavera goalkeeper, understanding the Juventus coach’s intentions, tried to make him change his mind: “He’s our coach, we put him out.” But Montero reiterated the concept: “Don’t give it to him, don’t give it to him.” So Juventus not only did not return the ball, but also found the goal with Crapisto.

Naturally, the episode warmed things up on the sidelines, with a back-and-forth between the two benches. Emiliano Bigica, coach of Sassuolo Primavera, appeared very angry. Instead, Montero continued to make the no gesture towards his opponents, explaining: “It’s not yours”, referring to the ball. For the record, Sassuolo – fourth in the standings while the Bianconeri are 12th – still won the match. And no one commented on the episode at the end of the match.
