Dominik Koepfer was the first German tennis player to qualify for the round of 16 of the Masters tournament in Miami. The 29-year-old defeated 14th-seeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert 3:6, 6:4, 6:3 after 2:14 hours at the hard court tournament on Sunday (local time). In the round of 16, Kopefer will face defending champion Daniil Medvedev.
Previously, Koepfer had also eliminated a seeded player in Miami, the Argentinian Sebastián Báez. The Black Forester is in the round of 16 of a 1000 series Masters tournament for the first time since November 2021.
Zverev continues, Sinner struggles
On Sunday, another German professional, Yannick Hanfmann, was successful. The 32-year-old defeated the 19th seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 3:6, 7:6, 6:4 and is in the third round, in which Hanfmann faces the Bulgarians Grigor Dimitrov scores. Previously, Olympic champions Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff had also qualified for the third round in a duel with compatriot Daniel Altmaier.

Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner had to struggle and needed three sets against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor to reach the round of 16. The Italian won 5:7, 7:5, 6:1 after 2:23 hours. Sinner will next face Australian Christopher O’Connell.
