Dominican Judokas Aim for Olympic Qualification at Grand Prix Upper Austria 2024

Seven outstanding Dominican judokas will participate in the Grand Prix Upper Austria 2024 this weekend, with the aim of accumulating crucial points for qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A group of seven judokas from the Dominican Republic’s top team will embark on the search for key points for qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, by participating in the Grand Prix Upper Austria 2024, scheduled for March 8 to 10.

This participation in the Australian Grand Prix Upper has been possible thanks to the support of the Creating Olympic Dreams Group (Creso) and the International Judo Federation (FIJ), evidencing the crucial support for the development and success of the Dominican judo team.

In the men’s category, outstanding athletes such as Antonio Tornal (-73 kg), Robert Florentino (-90 kg), Medickson del Orbe (-81 kg) and Jose Nova (-100 kg) will be looking to stand out in their respective categories. On the other hand, in the women’s category, judokas Moira Morillo (+78 kg), Eiraima Silvestre (-78 kg) and Ana Rosa (-57 kg) will be looking to shine in the international competition.

The Australian Grand Prix Upper will not only provide a platform for high-level development and competition, but will also award crucial points towards Olympic qualification. With the participation of 528 athletes from 78 countries, this event is presented as a key opportunity for Dominican judokas to stand out on the international scene and accumulate points that bring them closer to the long-awaited participation in this year’s Olympic Games.
