Dominic Thiem is looking for form. Could Günter Bresnik lead his former protégé back to the top of the world?

Günter Bresnik once led Dominic Thiem to the top of the world
The 2:6 and 1:6 defeat against Lukas Neumayer in Zadar marked the lowest point of the season so far for Dominic Thiem. The Lower Austrian then canceled his start at the Challenger tournament in Naples, the reasons for this are unknown. Thiem obviously needs time to think.
Is Thiem also thinking about a possible return to Günter Bresnik? Stefan Koubek – as he writes in the Kronen Zeitung – thinks this makes sense. But: “To do this, Dominic would have to jump over his own shadow as much as possible because of the events in the past.”
War of the Roses
Background: After the separation in 2019, there was a long war of roses that could only be ended through an out-of-court settlement. And although Thiem achieved his greatest triumph at the US Open 2020 without Bresnik, many sides are suggesting that the 30-year-old should return to probably the best tennis teacher in the country. Now also from Koubek.
Thiem’s current form crisis naturally also concerns Austrian tennis fans. Mockery and malice included. It is obvious that these are completely out of place. “Leave Thiem alone,” demands Davis Cup captain Jürgen Melzer in the STANDARD. “The clever internet clowns should sweep their own doors.”

And yet the comments on social media show that Thiem continues to move the masses. It is fitting that in 2023 no person in Austria will have googled more often than the former third in the world rankings. And anyone who remembers Thiem’s recent appearances in Vienna or Kitzbühel knows about his popularity anyway.
An early end to his career, as Thiem recently promised, would therefore be a great loss for Austrian tennis. Whether and when this will happen is currently only the subject of speculation. As well as a possible return to Günter Bresnik.
