Djokovic ends relationship with his former coach after winning 12 grand slam together

LONDON (AP) — Novak Djokovic has ended his successful collaboration with coach Goran Ivanisevic, which began in 2018 and resulted in 12 Grand Slam titles for the Serbian tennis player.

In a message posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Djokovic said he had stopped working with Ivanisevic since “a few days ago.”

“Our chemistry on the court had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid,” Djokovic wrote. “In fact, I am proud to say that apart from winning tournaments together, we also had another battle playing Parcheesi for… many years. And that tournament will never end for us. Thank you for everything friend, I love you.”

With the help of Ivanisevic, Djokovic eclipsed the men’s record for Grand Slam titles by reaching 24 career trophies.

He is yet to win a title in 2024. He succumbed in the semifinals of the Australian Open in January and in the third round of Indian Wells this month. He decided not to compete in the Miami Open and is getting ready to start the clay surface tournament season in Europe.

As a player, Ivanisevic became Wimbledon champion after being invited by the organizers in the 2001 edition. The Croatian was considered one of the best servers in the world and became number two in the world.

Djokovic mentioned what motivated him and Marián Vajda, his other coach, to incorporate Ivanisevic into their team.

“It was 2018, both Marian and I were looking to innovate and add a special service to our duo,” Djokovic said on Instagram. “In fact, he not only brought service, but also a lot of laughter, fun, world number one at the end of the seasons, unprecedented achievements and 12 other Grand Slam titles (along with some finals) to his record.”
