Deputies approve new funding sources for the FEIP – El Sol de México

The plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies approved a reform so that the Budgetary Income Stabilization Fund (FEIP) has new sources of financing.

Among the main changes, it stands out that now the FEIP will be able to receive resources from savings derived from the financial cost of the federal government’s public debt, depending on the corresponding fiscal year.

Likewise, the fund may be funded by additional contributions in the form of financial assets or credit securities from the federal government.

The opinion was approved with 242 votes in favor, 194 against and two abstentions by the plenary session of San Lázaro.

Until before the modifications, the FEIP was only made up of surplus resources from the Income Law and transfers from the Mexican Petroleum Fund (FMP).

This mechanism serves to compensate for the lack of government income in the event of a financial shock. At the end of 2023, its balance was 40,523 million pesos, according to data from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).
