In the clash of big names between the Timberwolves and the Nuggets, it was the reigning champions who won (115-112) while the Spurs lost to Dallas (113-107).

The Minnesota Timberwolves, despite the absentees, cast doubt on the Denver Nuggets in a shock at the top of the Western Conference, and Victor Wembanyama was more discreet with the San Antonio Spurs against Dallas on Tuesday in the NBA.

Despite trailing by 18 points in the second quarter and a host of absentees (Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid), the Minnesota Timberwolves shook the champion Denver, for a defeat on the wire (115- 112). The leaping Anthony Edwards (30 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists) missed an open shot at the buzzer to force overtime.

Serbian pivot Nikola Jokic ruled the game for Denver as usual with 35 points and 16 rebounds. It allows the Nuggets to seize 2nd place in the West (48 wins – 21 losses) to the detriment of the Wolves (47-22), and to eye the first place occupied by Oklahoma City (47-20).

Wembanyama lacking skill, Dallas takes advantage

Faced with a less successful Victor Wembanyama than usual (12 points on 3 out of 13 shooting, 11 rebounds but 6 blocks), the Dallas Mavericks ended up ahead of the San Antonio Spurs (113-107). Dallas was notably able to count on Kyrie Irving (28 points), again the author of some spectacular actions, and on a new triple-double from Slovenian Luka Doncic (18 points, 10 rebounds, 16 assists), his 18th this season.

“Not all victories are beautiful to see”admitted Dallas coach Jason Kidd, who sees his team now 7th in the West, close to 6th place (the last directly qualifying for the play-offs) of the Sacramento Kings.

The Pelicans continue their momentum

The New Orleans Pelicans won a third straight meeting against the Brooklyn Nets (104-91) and are only one victory away from the 4th place Los Angeles Clippers in the West (42-26 against 42 -25). Zion Williamson compiled 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
