We have to have good preparation as a team, then anything is possible.”

the essentials in brief

A few weeks ago, Schröder publicly stated that he could imagine carrying the German flag at the opening ceremony in Paris. When asked whether anyone from the DOSB had already contacted him, the 30-year-old explained: “Not yet. I don’t think that’s clear yet. I think a few athletes are being selected and then a draw is made somehow . Of course that would be a huge honor for me. That’s why I played for the national team for ten years. There’s nothing greater than carrying the flag for your own country.”

Franz Wagner, the DBB’s second top player, will also be there in Paris. Schröder, now 30, sees the future of the DBB in good hands with Wagner: “He is very, very humble and a very good boy. To be so professional at such an age and to have high goals is remarkable. He was “One of the best national players last year, without him we wouldn’t have won the World Cup. He will definitely be one of the best national players for the next ten or 15 years.”

At the end, Schröder also promised the German fans a return to the Bundesliga: “After my NBA career, I’ll definitely come back to Braunschweig and would like to finish it there. Of course, you don’t know when, but that’s one of my wishes “To just give the love back.”
