Dennis Schroder Leads Nets to Victory Over Raptors in Return to Toronto

Dennis Schroder had 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 96-88 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday.

It was a return to the Ontario metropolis for Schroder since he was traded to the Nets at the NBA trade deadline on February 8. He received a warm welcome from the crowd even though he only played half a season with the club.

Trendon Watford scored 19 points and made seven steals as a reserve to help the visitors end a six-game losing streak.

Gary Trent Jr. scored 18 points and Javon Freeman-Liberty added 15 for the Raptors, who were without several players. The Toronto team lost an 11th game in a row.

On the sidelines of this meeting, the Raptors found themselves at the heart of an investigation for illegal betting when several media revealed that Jontay Porter was the target of an NBA investigation. He allegedly placed bets on his own performance.

Porter’s name was placed on the inactive list for “personal reasons” on Saturday.

His absence was one of many plaguing the Raptors for this game. Scottie Barnes (broken left hand), Jakob Poeltl (torn ligament in left hand), RJ Barrett (personal reasons), Immanuel Quickley (personal reasons), Chris Boucher (partial tear of knee ligament) and DJ Carton (sprained right ankle) were also sidelined from action.

Barnes, Barrett and Quickley were on the Raptors’ bench on Monday, Barrett missing the club’s last six games following the death of his little brother.
