Daniil Medvedev qualifies for the quarters in Miami by beating Dominik Koepfer

Daniil Medvedev continues his good American tour. Finalist in Indian Wells, the Russian qualified this Tuesday for the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Miami. The world No. 4 continued his flawless performance in Florida (no set lost for the moment) by dominating Dominik Koepfer (7-6 [5], 6-0), who has never beaten a Top 5 in his career. The rest will be against Casper Ruud or Nicolas Jarry for Medvedev.

This meeting started with a tight set and marked by numerous errors on both sides. After a game of more than ten minutes, Medvedev managed the break, seeming to gain the upper hand over his opponent (2-1) but the Russian immediately gave up this advantage on a forehand fault. He no longer had the slightest opportunity on the opponent’s serve and, embroiled in a decisive game, he found himself with his back against the wall, trailing 0-4.

Koepfer never recovered from the decisive game

Gilles Cervara suggested to his player, quite annoyed at that moment, to insist on the German’s forehand and it was on this shot that the latter completely cracked. Several faults revived Medvedev in this tie-break. At 5-4 for the Russian, Koepfer shouted his frustration seeing that the set was slipping away from him. Three points later, Medvedev concluded with a cross forehand before unfolding into a one-sided second set during which the German had disappeared.
